The cardholder is the person to whom a bank issued a particular credit or debit card. For most purchases, the cardholder and the customer will be one and the same. When fraud occurs, however, the customer is the perpetrator of the fraud while the cardholder is the victim. In these cases, the cardholder will file a chargeback to recover the stolen funds.
